Mac OS X Mail: How to not leave email on the serverImportant: Leaving mail on the mail server allows you to view messages on your client as well as WebMail. However, e-mail is permanently deleted on the server after a certain period of time.
To configure Mail v1.2.3 to either save or delete copies of e-mail from the server:
- From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
- Under Description, select your Email account.
- Click the Edit button.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Select how you want to handle your messages on the server:
- To delete your messages from the server:
- Place a check in the Remove Copy from Server After Retrieving a Message check box.
- From the drop-down list, select Right Away.
- To leave your messages on the server, clear the Remove Copy from Server After Retrieving a Message check box.
- Click OK.
- Close the Mail Preferences window.
