Domain Transfers - how do i transfer my domain to RSAWeb

In order to move your domain to RSAWeb, there are a few things that need to be organised.

    Step 1: Cancel Contract

Cancel your contract with your old ISP, be careful as to what/which services you are actually cancelling, make it clear what you wish to keep and what you wish to cancel. Fax or email this to the old ISP and get confirmation from them.

Step 2: Payments / Outstanding Amounts due

Make sure you settle up with your old provider, we may need their help to transfer the domain. In RSAWeb's experience, it is best to keep them on your side otherwise they can hold up the transfer very easily.

    Step 3: Domain Details

Many unscrupulous ISP's register domains on your behalf and 'forget' to put your name in the 'owner' field. This can allow them to prevent you getting control of your own domain. .co.za domain transfers are relatively simple if the contact email addresses are correct. Only one contact needs to accept the ticket that gets sent from Uniform, however if any one contact denies the ticket, the ticket is denied immediately. If nobody responds, the ticket is cancelled. The ticket remains open for 24 hours and then closes automatically, it updates if 1 or more positive replies are received and no negative replies. .com / .net / .org generally takes a bit longer than 24 hours. Obtain a username and password from your provider to manage the domain. That will allow easy updating of all relevant information. .za.net / .za.org - similar to the .co.za transfer process.

Step 4: Get RSAWeb to help you!

We are here to assist you so you are not left in the dark to do the transfers yourself, they can get quite complicated sometimes! We can assist you in handling the domain transfers.

    Step 5: Domain Updated

Once the domain information has been updated, it can take from 2 hours to 2 days for the DNS to completely resolve to the correct places. The majority of the time it is within a few hours. However, some ISP's cache DNS requests for too long and may result in you seeing the old website or old email server. RSAWeb can suggest an appropriate strategy to minimise any email or website connectivity loss.
