Mac OS X Mail: How to not leave email on the server

Important: Leaving mail on the mail server allows you to view messages on your client as well as WebMail. However, e-mail is permanently deleted on the server after a certain period of time. To configure Mail v1.2.3 to either save or delete copies of e-mail from the server:
  1. From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
  2. Under Description, select your Email account.
  3. Click the Edit button.
  4. Select the Advanced tab.
  5. Select how you want to handle your messages on the server:
    • To delete your messages from the server:
      1. Place a check in the Remove Copy from Server After Retrieving a Message check box.
      2. From the drop-down list, select Right Away.
    • To leave your messages on the server, clear the Remove Copy from Server After Retrieving a Message check box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Close the Mail Preferences window.
