Team RSAWEB keeps connected on the move

March 16, 2016

For us work should be more than just a 9 to 5 job. It’s about choosing your lifestyle, however conventional or extreme it may be. We’ve already mentioned how work is no longer a place and as the nature of work changes to become more flexible and collaborative so too does how we think about the very concept of work itself.  That’s why we support those who live their lives unconventionally by helping them to stay connected wherever they are and whatever they happen to be doing.

Renay’s WiFi Adventure Wagon

Renay Goustra, one of Team RSAWEB’s professional athletes, competes in some of the biggest mountain biking sporting events all over the world. Last year Renay won the Constantia Valley MTB race and took third position in the 1ZambiaMTB race.

Recently he had a pressing need to upgrade his car as his old one didn’t have the capacity to get him, his bikes, gear, luggage and friends to races or into the mountains anymore.  He decided to approach companies who shared his passion for the outdoors to enable him to upgrade to a new ‘adventure wagon’. Renay was especially keen to get RSAWEB, his title sponsor, some more coverage in a way that would be relevant to the brand. Thinking outside the box he came up with an idea to turn his car into a free WiFi hotspot that can travel with him to races and on all of his adventures!

So how does the car’s free WiFi work?

The set-up is simple. In the glove compartment of Renay’s car there is a Mobile Broadband wireless hotspot device with a SIM card, which uses cellular data to provide a connection, just like a Smartphone would. The device is plugged in to a cigarette lighter charger, so it charges whenever the car is being driven. The best part is that the connection is completely open, so anyone near the car can connect hassle free without needing a password. Undoubtedly this aspect of his adventure wagon really grabs people’s attention as it is fantastic to get super-fast, FREE Internet while around Cape Town or in remote areas for sporting events. So if you see the car at an event, at the shops or even while sitting in traffic feel free to connect!

Using RSAWEB’s Mobile Broadband also allows Renay to publish live videos, share images and post updates to his social media networks, enabling his supporters to follow him and experience the races he competes in first hand.
