Ard Matthews live at Concerts in the Park

January 19, 2017

A summer get together

With the new year in full swing you can hold on to that holiday feeling for a little bit longer. We are having a get together as only the Mother City knows how, with great people, great music and the best Cape Town summer vibe.

Get down to De Waal Park this Sunday (22 January 2017) for another awesome free summer concert, brought to you by Concerts in the Park and RSAWEB.  Simply the best way to end your weekend.

Sunday’s line-up includes:

Opening act: Albert Frost

Supporting act: Al Bairre

Headline act: Ard Matthews

Ard Matthews

Just Jinjer front-man Ard Matthews never disappoints. This well-known and loved singer-songwriter promises to have you on your feet with his iconic voice and melodies.

Ard spent eight years in Los Angeles with the band wowing international audiences, before returning home and launching his solo career.

Al Bairre

Pronounced Al-Bear, this playful Symphonic Indie Pop Rock band is made up of twin sisters Tessa and Julia Johnson, together with Kyle Davis and Nicholas Preen. They hit the Cape Town scene in 2012 and create infectious effervescent tunes using guitars, violins, ukelele’s, drums and a cello.

Albert Frost

Albert Frost is a well-known and respected South African blues-rock musician.

He is known for his energetic performances while he seamlessly alternates between rhythm and lead. His first love is blues, stemming from the influence of his long relationship with the Blues Broers with whom he has performed since 1994.

He has recorded with Arno Carstens, Koos Kombuis, Chris Chameleon, Blues Broers and many others. He has performed with a number of South Africa artists, as well as international artists Ali Faka Toure and Finley Quaye. He toured with Simple Minds and R.E.M. and supported the Rolling Stones.

This year he released his third solo album, The Wake Up, which, according to Frost, signalled the “start of a new journey” for him. In a departure from Frost’s blues roots, The Wake Up explores various musical avenues and lyrical content to create something he says will surprise and excite his fans.

Be sure to visit the RSAWEB team at the concert. Enter our competition on the day and you could stand a chance to win amazing prizes!

See you on Sunday!
