We build the tools and solutions your business needs to succeed. Our team of developers work hard to make your path to success as smooth as possible. A lot of hard work goes into building great things. Michael Laughland, one of our incredible developers, explains what it’s like to be a developer at RSAWEB.
How long have you been a developer?
I have been a developer for 10 years.
In layman’s terms, what is it that you do?
I write and improve features on MyRSAWEB, the system for customers to manage their services and for internal users to manage customers. I also write code to integrate different systems with MyRSAWEB so they can basically speak to each other.
What does your average day entail?
Write code! Usually we plan our work 2 weeks in advance to write the features that are needed.
What is it like working at RSAWEB?
The work is really fun. Especially when I we get to work on newer technologies. We normally get time to “play” with newer technologies and integrate them into our systems. Most days it feels more like a hobby than a job to be honest.
What is your favorite part of your job?
It’s hard to pinpoint, I enjoy every aspect of what I do.
What is the most stressful aspect of your job?
Big deployments that can cause systems to go down. I recently had to completely replace our authorization method which was quite risky because if it had gone wrong nobody would have been able to log in! Even when you know the code is correct, you can’t help but get a little nervous.
Most memorable moment?
We had a team building not too long ago where we went to a shooting range. It was great to blow off some steam with the team, while doing something new and exciting.
What advice would you give to a developer on day one?
Just jump into it! Play with everything and get to know it slowly. Don’t be afraid of the systems and code!
