Games to look forward to in 2022

December 23, 2021

Gamers, grinders, no-scopers, mid-or-AFK’ers, PC-purists, and console connoisseurs – this is the article you’ve been waiting for! From the Souls-like and fantasy-driven Elden Ring, to the story-heavy and sci-fi setting of Star Wars: Eclipse, we’ve got your 2022 covered with some of the most exciting soon-to-be-released games on the circuit!

Arc Raiders

Arc Raiders is the brainchild of Embark Studios – a new game development company that was created by some of Dice’s ex Battlefield devs. They formed the studio in their attempt to break away from the bureaucracy-ridden mega-studios, Dice and EA, to create something pure. While the game is still in the early development stage, this is what we know about it so far: it’s a free-to-play cooperative third-person shooter that will see you and your squad of Raiders unite to resist the onslaught of ARC – a ruthless mechanised threat descending from space. We’re super excited about this one!
ETA: Sometime in 2022 – updates to come!
Platforms: PS5, PC, Xbox Series S & X

A Telltale Series

Telltale are back! After talks of the studio shutting its doors, Telltale has made a triumphant resurgence with the announcement of their latest game – The Expanse: A Telltale Series. For any sci-fi fans out there, this is great news, as the game is sure to follow closely to the series of books written by James S.A Corey (the joint pen name of authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck). When it comes to Telltale games, every choice you make has long-lasting consequences on how the story pans out. With the choice of Drummer as the game’s main protagonist – working as Chief of Security on Tycho Station – we feel that we are going to be in for a wild ride with this one!
ETA: Hopefully mid-2022 – we will update as soon as we know more!
Platforms: PS5, PC, Xbox Series S & X

Star Wars: Eclipse

What do you get if you combine one of the world’s most innovative gaming studios, Quantic Dream, with arguably the world’s greatest sci-fi franchise, Star Wars? A masterpiece – we hope! Not much is known yet about Star Wars Eclipse as it’s still in early development, but here is what we know so far. It is a new action-adventure, multiple-character branching narrative game, set in the High Republic era. The game lets you play as a diverse cast of charismatic characters that all have a role to play in the future of the Outer Rim. Every decision you make can have dramatic repercussions on your journey. So, we know that Quantic Dream are genius at building rich narratives and branching, choice-driven stories. We also know that the story is set in the high-Republic era, about 300 years before the events of the prequel trilogy. This means we are bound to be greeted with fresh ideas, and are also going to be lucky enough to reconnect with old, returning heroes – like Yoda!
ETA: No news as of yet – we will update as soon as we know more!
Platforms: No platforms announced as of yet – we can assume the big three, however (PS5, Xbox Series S & X, PC)

Dying Light 2: Stay Human

If you’re looking for a zombie-focussed, parkour-driven, post-apocalyptic and dystopian journey – Dying Light 2: Stay Human is going to be right up your alley! After some initial delays earlier in 2021, when the pre-purchase button was even removed from the game’s Steam page (it was initially meant to be released in December), it seems Dying Light 2 has gone full steam ahead and is close to completion now. As the sequel to the extremely popular Dying Light 1 that was released in 2015, Dying Light 2 follows on from the last game – where the virus has won and sent civilisation back to the dark ages – and humanities last stronghold is on the final brink of collapse. We are super excited to see how the developers are going to expand on this masterpiece of a series! There’s going to be zombies, an open-world environment, parkour, a choice-driven story – what’s not to love?
ETA: February 4th 2022
Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X & S, PC, Nintendo Switch

Elden Ring

If you’re a fan on Soul’s-like games, and the Game of Thrones book/TV series – you’re going to want to keep an eye on Elden Ring. In Elden Ring you will have the pleasure of being able to journey through a new fantasy world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki (creator of the influential Dark Souls video game series) and George R. R. Martin (author of the Game of Thrones fantasy series). In the Elden Ring, you will unravel the mysteries of the Elden Ring’s power, encounter adversaries with profound backgrounds, characters with their own unique motivations, and fearsome creatures. If you’re looking to get stuck into a game that has a steep learning curve, will offer up a challenge, and won’t hold your hand along the way – Elden Ring is going to be right up your alley!
ETA: February 25th 2022
