Kwese Play, Roku-powered streaming device, service disabled

July 03, 2019

As promised, we are keeping you up to date with the ongoing Kwese Play situation.

Last week it came to our attention that customers with a Kwese Play streaming device were displaying an error message on screen. This is as a result of a contractual dispute between two parties, Roku and Econet Media. They have not been able to come to an agreement yet.

For those customers who purchased the Kwese Play device, or chose to receive it free of charge during one of our promotions as a zero-rated added benefit of the promotion, unfortunately we are unable to provide a refund. We have been investigating alternative devices but are unable to provide any clarity on that yet.

We recommend you wait for a few more days to see if the contractual issue between Econet Media and Roku gets resolved. Please note that Econet Media (who own Kwese) are under business rescue.

For all our customers with a Kwese Play but without a smart TV, you are still able to stream your favourite TV show on Netflix, Showmax or Youtube using a desktop or laptop computer. For more information about how to do this, please read more here.

Our sincere apologies for the current dilemma and hope it gets resolved shortly. We will update you further as soon as we know more.
