“Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”

–          Plato

There comes a time in every Grade 11 learners’ life when they have to decide what they’re going to be when they grow up, and job shadowing is the school system’s way of guiding the learners onto the right career path. We participated in this activity recently, when 4 young ladies from the LEAP Science and Maths School spent a day with us to understand what a career in IT industry could hold for them.

Philisiwe Mzwana, Tina Lubambo, Nomfundiso Malgas and Nosiphiwo Rose Breakfast spent time with some of our team members who introduced them to our company, the various roles and responsibilities and how our employees came to be in their respective positions.“It was nice being at RSAWEB, as I got to hear about all the functions in the business. I also enjoyed being there because of the way they welcomed us. I’d like to say thank you for welcoming us with such warm hands,” said Philisiwe Mzwana.

We were proud to welcome the learners from LEAP Science and Maths School particularly because Maths and Science are highly beneficial subjects to study at school level, not only for a potential future in the IT industry, but in most career fields. These subjects equips learners with essential skills that will make them highly employable, and it teaches them unique problem-solving skills, which is not only important in a practical or experimental career field, but is essential to employers in all fields.

The LEAP Science & Maths Schools are based in Langa, Gugulethu (Cape Town) and Alexandra (Johannesburg). The school aims to transform educationally disadvantaged communities in South Africa through mathematics and science focused education initiatives. The LEAP learning model is designed to support children from township communities to become South Africa’s leaders of the future.
