Most South Africans will be on a 21-day lockdown and will need something to keep their mind occupied during this uncertain timeIt’s normal to turn to video games to combat boredom, but at a time when many of us are trying to save money, it’s not always easy to justify buying the latest and greatest new games. To make things easier, we have picked out some of the best free games for you to play. Hopefully, these games can take your mind off of things and make your time indoors more bearable. 

Call of Duty: Warzone 

Available on: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One 

Warzone is the latest battle royale and is slowly becoming one of the best games around. The game is similar to Fortnite and Apex Legends. Players will compete against other players to survive until the end, but Warzone has made some interesting changes to the battle royale formula. 

Warzone has been praised for its clever respawn mechanics and excellent map design. Who doesn’t love a first-person shooter? 

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 

Available on: PCMac, Linux 

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is a multiplayer first-person shooter video game that pits two teams against each other: the Terrorists and the Counter-Terrorists. Both sides are tasked with eliminating the other while also completing separate objectives. It offers a unique, semi-realistic, skill-based multiplayer experience that and is one of the most followed games in the world.

We don’t need to tell you about Fortnite. It is one of the most popular games in the world and has captured the attention of almost every gamer on the planet. If you are looking for an awesome battle royale, here is your game. 

Hearthstone

Set within the Warcraft universe, Hearthstone is a digital-only, turn-based collectible card game that pits two opponents against each other. Players select a hero from one of ten classes. All classes have unique cards and abilities, known as hero powers, which help define class archetypes. 

League of Legends

League of Legends is one of the most popular games of the last 10 years. League of Legends is a team-based strategy game where two teams of five powerful champions face off to destroy the other’s base. Choose from over 140 champions to make epic plays, secure kills, and take down towers as you battle your way to victory. If you want to play a game where you can win through mechanical skill and intelligent decisions on the map, this is your game to try and master. 

Path of Exile

Path of Exile is an online Action RPG set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast. It is designed around a strong online item economy, deep character customisation, competitive PvP and ladder races. The player controls a single character from an overhead perspective and explores large outdoor areas and caves or dungeons, battling monsters and fulfilling quests from non-player characters (NPCs) to gain experience points and equipment. 

Warframe 

Available on: PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC 

Warframe is an online action game that includes elements of shooters, RPG and stealth games. The player creates their Tenno character, which includes a basic armor unit called a “Warframe” which provides the player with special abilities, basic weapons such as a melee weapon, primary, sidearms, and a ship. In Warframe, players control their Tenno character who use their powered Warframes along with a variety of weapons and abilities to complete missions.
