Get your business ready for the third wave and more load-shedding

July 02, 2021

A third Covid wave has hit South Africa– as have stricter lockdown laws.

On top of this, load-shedding has been rearing its head once again and intermittent power cuts have been getting in the way of our work from home, streaming, and gaming needs. This means we continue to deal with the realities of working from home and dealing with load-shedding.

Keeping You Connected While You Work From Home

Mobile Data is the easiest, fastest, and most practical way to get your staff online and connected from their home offices, and the best part is that it won’t be affected by load-shedding! Your teams are supplied with SIM cards, granting them instant and easy connectivity, through a plug-and-play device that doesn’t require electricity to run. With wide-spread network coverage powered by MTN and Vodacom, these SIMs keep entire workforces connected – from almost anywhere.

Our Mobile Data Solutions helped our own business create a successful work-from-home blueprint that we still use to this day. RSAWEB’s CEO, Rudy van Staden, says, ‘’When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit South Africa, all RSAWEB staff working from home with unreliable internet connections were onboarded onto the RSAWEB Enterprise Mobile data solution. They were sent LTE dongles and provided data which was easily managed through our Mobile Management portal. Overnight, over 100 members of the RSAWEB team were up, running and connected to reliable and fast internet.’’.

Save up to 50% on your mobile data costs with our Mobile Data Management Portal

RSAWEB’s mobile data solution helped E4 (a company that develops software for the Banking, Legal, and Credit markets) manage the different data requirements of their large workforce in locations across the country.

“We needed to have a way to manage all the SIM cards in one single platform and reduce our monthly costs, especially the overage.” John Frier, E4’s director said.

We helped E4 achieve both goals by providing them access to our Mobile Data Management Portal, where they had full control over their SIMs and access to features that saved them significant mobile costs.

Streamline Procedures & Remain Agile

With our Mobile Data Portal, businesses will receive one consolidated invoice for all SIMs and data on their business’s network – which can save them hours of time to put towards more critical tasks.

One of our business customers that benefit from this feature is Hardy Boys – an integrated, award-winning, and full-service agency. Their IT Manager, Anthony Lumley had this to say – ‘’The functionality of the portal is fantastic and enables us to make changes that are required at the click of a button, and the simplicity of use with the solution has taken away the hassle of mobile data management that we were having through conventional suppliers.’’.

Keeping You Connected & Online During Load-Shedding

Load-shedding has had a negative effect on both our overall quality of life and how our businesses operate. For this reason, RSAWEB have taken pre-emptive steps to ensure you don’t experience breaks in service when load-shedding strikes.

Our CEO Rudy van Staden said that ‘’Running a successful business is challenging in the current economic climate we live in, and the last thing businesses should need to worry about is being able to keep the lights on and the servers running even though they’ve paid their bills on time! For this reason, we wanted to make sure our nodes were ready and able to handle stay online and continue providing our clients with connectivity during load-shedding.’’.

The solution for many of our customers, and our own staff, is to rely on a battery-powered LTE device (with the ability to hotspot), which provides connectivity via Mobile Data, even if your fibre at home or the office is down due to load-shedding. We have seen, that even though fibre is increasingly growing, having a backup solution like Mobile Data with a battery-powered LTE device, ensures that teams are always on, connected, and are able to work without interruptions.

The problem was that regular load-shedding occurrences were having a huge impact on the lifespan of the batteries that we used to provide backup power to our access nodes. After each load-shedding cycle, the running time of each battery was reduced, which lead to certain nodes failing to stay on during load-shedding. This naturally led to a very small number of our customers not being able to keep their routers online with UPS devices when their power went out.

Our solution was to invest in a more resilient inverter solution to replace our existing UPS backup power devices. These inverters, coupled with higher capacity batteries, allowed us to easily provide 6 to 8 hours of backup power to affected nodes during bouts of load-shedding – which in turn allowed our customers to have uninterrupted internet access through the ‘dark times’.
