Concerts in the Park, proudly sponsored by RSAWEB, kicked off on Sunday 17 December. Thousands of people braved the harsh Cape Town winds to see Jimmy Nevis and The Rockets perform, here’s what went down.
The Rockets wowed the crowd with hits spanning multiple genres, from each era of their five-decade-long career. Halfway through the performance, it was clear that this would not be a lazy Sunday, as picnic blankets, open spaces and any raised platform in the vicinity were transformed into dancefloors.
Jimmy Nevis was welcomed by a screaming crowd of around 10 000 people. Delivering a very personal performance, he sang his way through his popular hits and treated the crowd to a live preview of his upcoming album, leaving many excited for the upcoming record.
While it was a concert, there was more than just music to enjoy. Kids flocked to the face painter and the park was filled with all sorts of characters. The young and the less young tried their best to keep hula hoops up in the air, often ending in fits of laughter.
Don’t get FOMO again, catch The Rudimentals and Grassy Spark at the next Concerts in the Park event on 21 January in De Waal Park!
